International Marconi Day - April 28th

International Marconi Day will take place on Saturday 28 April this year. Although the event is not a contest, participants can qualify for award certificates by contacting special stations.

These stations must operate on or close to a site where Guglielmo Marconi carried out experiments or where Marconi equipment was used prior to his death in 1937.

Further information can be found on the web at www.gb4imd.org.uk.

GB2MGY - This coming weekend

COBRAS members at GI2BX in Belfast Northern Ireland, are running the special event station GB2MGY to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, this Saturday and Sunday (14th and 15th).

The COBRAS are affiliated to the ISWL, so this station will count for the Monitor award in the normal way.

The original plan was to operate from Blackhead lighthouse. This has now been shelved. They will instead be operating from the SS Nomadic, which is currently moored beside the Odyssey.

The QSL Manager is GI4GOS - see QRZ.com for details.

The SS Nomadic was built at the same time as the Titanic and is currently being restored in Belfast.

So if you are QSL'ing direct, please consider adding an extra Dollar for the restoration funds, it will be greatly appreciated.

Several other special "Titanic" calls will be QRV from around the world this weekend.

Please keep your eye on the DX Clusters, or spot them if you work any of these special Titanic stations.
