Training Courses

Foundation

The Foundation Licence is the first step on your Amateur Licence
Qualification.

This is run as either an intensive weekend course, over 2 weekends
(including the examination), or as a series of 2-hour sessions on a
weeknight. The course is normally scheduled to last for 20 hours.

Upon passing a 25 question multiple choice examination, and a
series of practical tests, you can apply for your Foundation Licence,
which gives you the ability to transmit on any of the Amateur radio
bands from 135 kHz, to 432 MHz, using a maximum power of 10W.

This will allow you to make both local, and international contacts,
and if the bands are 'right', worldwide communication is possible.

Intermediate

The Intermediate Licence is the next step on your Amateur Licence
Qualification.

This is run as a series of 2-hour sessions on a weeknight.
The course is normally scheduled to last for 35 hours.

Upon passing a 45 question multiple choice examination, and a
series of practical tests, you can apply for your Intermediate Licence,
which gives you the ability to transmit on any of the Amateur radio
bands from 135 kHz, to 250 GHz, using a maximum power of 50W.

This will allow you to make both local, and international contacts,
and if the bands are 'right', worldwide communication is possible.

Advanced

The Advanced Licence is the final step on your Amateur Licence
Qualification.

This is run as a series of 2-hour sessions on a weeknight. The
course is normally scheduled to last for 50 hours.

Upon passing a 62 question multiple choice theoretical
examination, you can apply for your Advanced (or Full) Licence,
which gives you the ability to transmit on any of the Amateur radio
bands from 135 kHz, to 250 GHz, using a maximum power of 400W.

You are also allowed to operate in foreign countries, and from ships
